First thing’s first. I don’t normally become incredibly intrigued by designers, but this case is DIFFERENT. The name Christian Cowan certainly rings bells. While earning his degree in Fashion Design at London College of Fashion, he worked with celebrities Lady Gaga and Miley Cyrus, later working with Nicki Minaj, Paris Hilton, Beyoncé and Cardi B. (Mind blown!) Cowan is creatively inspired by women who are true to themselves. Paris Hilton walked in Cowan’s FALL 2017 NYFW debut! Christian Cowan was introduced as “The student designer behind Lady Gaga’s Glittertastic suit” by UK’s Grazia Daily in 2014. Now he’s headlining! He has such sick designs and just by looking at his work, it is more than clear that he doesn’t play it safe nor does he play by the book. What I mean by that is he doesn’t work according to trends. This is what differentiates him from all of the rest. Making such a huge mark at only 23 is beyond commendable. In his PAPER Magazine interview, he described this as “keeping a finger on the pulse.” I can totally relate to this theory. Our 20’s is the time period where we learn so much about ourselves and we’re constantly evolving. Just as we are evolving, the world within fashion is rapidly changing. This creates so much space for fresh ideas — we are inspired by mood, new values, and the people that surround us. Cowan is one of 10 finalist of the CDFA/ Vogue Fashion fund!!! He was chosen by The Council of Fashion Designers of America, INC. Let that sink all the way in. This guy’s lit. Fashion pioneers such as Anna Wintour, Nicole Phelps, Steven Kolb, THE Diane Von Furstenberg and more who have and continue to inspire us acknowledged his gift. The purpose of the fund is to support emerging talent and financially help designers to continue to move forward in their career by extending their budget. Mentorship from CFDA designers and fashion executives is also provided to the top 3 winners. I have absolutely no doubt whatsoever that Cowan will win first place. Yeah, FIRST PLACE. His work speaks volumes but his character and the beliefs he has built his work on speaks even louder. This is one designer I’ve GOT TO meet and New York City is but so big so just watch!

If you’re familiar with Taz Angels, the terminology “Daddy Issues” should not be alarming to you. As weird as I personally think it is to submit to a lifestyle where you have to objectify yourself, this is actually a common behavior within women who have absent fathers. One thing I can’t help but see eye to eye with them on is the point of DADDY ISSUES being a real thing.
Tragedy can either break or make you. The experiences we go through in life are all planned events that mold us. It’s almost like pottery and you have the choice of having total control over the clay. Growing up without my biological mother who passed away when I was 7 and having no relationship with my “father” eventually forced me to take total control. Control over my fears, control over any situation that tries to stunt my growth and control over my future. Yes, I’ve had father figures but things don’t always go as planned. And I’ve learned that a father figure is exactly what it’s called, someone just to step in for a moment. One walked away from I’m assuming the responsibility and weight that came along with it, one betrayed me and the other chose to put an end to our father-daughter bond through a text. All very hurtful situations that haven’t and could never break me. Even the thought of my biological father not feeling any need to show any type of sympathy when my mom died makes me cringe to this day but never broke me. That’s nothing but God. This type of strength doesn’t happen overnight and it only happens when you really want change. You have to accept yourself and learn to LOVE yourself to gain power over any given situation. All those girls that are apart of Taz Angels are gorgeous. You can be the prettiest thing walking but you’re only as valuable as you see yourself. That’s how powerful the mind is so be very mindful of your choices in men, friends and the energy you allow in your space. Don’t let the domino effect from disappointment of being let down so many times let you settle for mental, emotional or even physical abuse. Detach yourself from any and everything that is toxic. Take total control. Choosing to take control was the best thing I could ever do for MYSELF. My blog is based on style and confidence building because it’s what helped me to find myself. Which is why I find it important to create balance and express my ideas on topics like this. Finding yourself, identifying your passion and serving your purpose fills that empty hole. Don’t be that girl to blame all your wrong doing on your daddy issues. Be accountable for the decisions you make and for the direction you want your life to go in. ❤️ It’s about that time of the year again !!! New York City’s streets will be full of vibrant, eye catching style and new trends. It can be a real difficult, tedious task to get your hands on tickets to the industry shows. Some of those shows range in the $1000’s and some are sold out before the summer’s out. Access is so limited. HOWEVER. The open to public shows are just as fab and offers the same opportunity. If you are last minute searching for shows, volunteer opportunity, workshops, networking events and even after parties where you can mingle and connect with others who are just as passionate as we are about style and fashion, here are a few:
